Check battery health
You can check the health of your battery in Battery preferences or the Battery status menu:
- In macOS Big Sur, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Battery, select Battery in the sidebar, then click Battery Health.
- In macOS Catalina or earlier, hold the Option key and click the battery icon in the menu bar to reveal the battery status menu.
You'll see one of the following status indicators:
- Normal: The battery is functioning normally.
- Service Recommended: The battery's ability to hold charge is less than when it was new or it isn't functioning normally. You can safely continue to use your Mac but you should take it to an Apple Store or Apple-authorized service provider to get your battery evaluated.

Check the battery status menu
The battery status menu shows you how much charge your battery has and whether it’s currently charging. This menu is at the right side of the menu bar:
The battery status menu also tells you if your display or any apps are using significant energy. Also consider closing any apps that are listed to save battery power.
If you use optimized battery charging in macOS Big Sur, you’ll see additional information when your Mac is connected to power, such as whether charging is paused or when your battery will be fully charged. If charging is paused and you need to have your Mac fully charged sooner, click Charge To Full Now.
Resolve charging issues
Get help with other issues such as if your Mac won’t recognize a power adapter or charge to 100%.
If your Mac isn’t charging
Confirm the correct wattage AC adapter for your computer. A power adapter rated for a lower wattage than is required for the system might not reliably charge the computer. If you’re not sure which power adapter to use with your computer, learn how to find the right power adapter and cord for your Mac notebook.
For more help, learn what to do if your USB-C power adapter isn’t charging your Mac notebook. If issues persist, shut down your Mac, close the display for 30 seconds, then try to charge again. Or if you have an Intel-based Mac, reset the SMC.
If your Mac won’t charge to 100%
If you use optimized battery charging in macOS Big Sur or use macOS Catalina or earlier, occasionally the battery might not show a full charge (100%) in macOS, even after the power adapter has been connected for an extended period of time. This behavior is normal and helps prolong the overall life of the battery.
It was only a little over 2 years, and suddenly my MBA (last one with intel, 2020) went blank and never turned on. After a series of exploratory episodes over next 2 days, I could eventually figure out that it was the battery that swelled up. As I hopped in a service centre (local one, not Apple authorised), they asked me ~13k for the battery swap and offered me 3 months of warranty; and the Apple authorised SC estimated a total cost of ~22k with a 6 months of warranty. Surprisingly, when I checked for an exchange over Amazon or Flipkart, I was offered ~15k for the entire laptop.
Thankfully, I came across Lap Gadgets website while searching for a replacement battery (as I decided to replace the battery on my own, only after having a few YT lessons). It was listed for ~6k, which was itself suspicious enough, that I may get scammed. But checked the reviews, and they appeared genuine, and I took the chance. While ordering, I also purchased an onsite warranty for Rs 250. Otherwise, there is 6 months of carry in warranty. They also offered a return (10 days as far as I can remember) if necessary.
To my utter surprise, they battery came in a nice secure cardboard box with screw drivers inside. Only thing missing was adhesives (that was taken care of with tapes later). My brother carried out the surgery successfully, and voila, the laptop was working again. It was giving me a usage time of roughly 6-8 hours, exactly like the original one. I tested with a complete discharge so that optimisation can take place. Till now (2 months since the replacement) it was working as good as a new one. No heating issue. Charging time is similar to the new one (I don’t have exact numbers in terms of minutes though). And no issues so far (touch wood). Battery health is showing capacity of 4743 mAh, condition as normal. Writing this review from the same laptop.
PS: One thing I learnt further, that many repairs can be done at home with proper replacement tools, even if one is not an engineer or technically expert for the task. Thanks Lap Gadgets for the excellent experience, and for further such issues, I shall come back to this site.
Its written original battery on the site and as per my experience YES its original battery. Its giving me 10hrs of back up. Nice packaging. Supplied with Screw drivers. There should be adhesive tapes too in the pa kage. This is what is missing.
The battery quality is great and easily gives 5-7 hours of moderate usage. It came well packaged, with the necessary screwdrivers for installing the battery. Overall, highly satisfied with the battery, thanks team!
I was able to change the battery on my own as it came with two screw drivers for two different type of screws with simple tutorial on YouTube.No need ro visit any laptop repair shop for installation

Getting a backup of around 5 hours for regular use and 7 hours with brightness all the way down and headphones on.
